Upon finding roller derby, Bliss is introduced to the Hurl Scouts, a roller derby team that hasn’t won in years. Okay – that’s not really what she wants, because she buys the boots, but Bliss does want to break out of her small town in Texas. Anyhow, Whip It is about Bliss, a shy quirky outcast played by Ellen Page (known for playing shy quirky outcasts) who is forced into beauty pageants by her overbearing mother (Marcia Gay Harden) But Bliss doesn’t want the world of beauty pageants – all she longs for is the chance to buy black boots and listen to weird indie songs. That lady is an incredible businesswoman.

Whip It is Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, and she also produced and acted in it. Also staring Eve, Jimmy Fallon and Daniel Stern. Marcia Gay Harden plays Bliss’s disapproving mother, while Kristen Wiig and Juliette Lewis play roller-derby stars. Summary – The directorial debut of Drew Barrymore, stars Ellen Page as Bliss, a rebellious Texas teen who throws in her small town beauty pageant crown for the rowdy world of roller derby.
